Description
The Vespero della Beata Vergine completes the recording of the works contained in the collection of eight-voice Vespers published in 1675, which includes the Vespero delli 5 Laudate (Dynamic CDS 520) and the Vespero delle Domeniche (Dynamic CDS 7714). This is the ?rst complete recording of the trilogy, a masterpiece by Francesco Cavalli. In the Vespero della Beata Vergine, Francesco Cavalli proves himself a worthy heir of Claudio Monteverdi, using musical brush strokes to extraordinary effect and re?ecting an intense Counter-Reformation spirituality, in which the deepest religious feeling goes hand in hand with the stamp of Venetian splendour. The performance is in the authoritative hands of the Coro Monteverdi di Crema and the La Pifarescha ensemble conducted by Bruno Gini, one of Italy’s greatest specialists in Cavalli’s sacred music.
