Description
Since its founding in 2016, the duo MAISS YOU has devoted itself in equal measure to music for violin and piano as well as to its "sister genre" for viola and piano.
In doing so, it takes advantage of the presentation of both string instruments, which is by all means rarely encountered in the concert business, in order to put works into exciting relationships with each other even within a single concert program.
On this album the Duo presents two kindred masterpieces: Beethoven's "Kreutzer Sonata" and Zimmermann's 1950
Violin Sonata. These two works are interrelated in a whole variety of ways, not just through Zimmermann's preoccupation with Beethoven's chamber music.
The Duo combines these two sonatas with Brahm's last chamber work, the Violin Sonata Op. 120/2. Composed in 1894, the Violin Sonata presents a stunning retrospective of the era of the great classical sonatas.
