The development of the new reggae sound in the late 60s, resulted in a new wave of young, dynamic Jamaican record producers making their mark on the island’s music scene. Of these hugely influential music-makers, perhaps the most overlooked today is Alvin ‘G.G.’ Ranglin.
This 2CD set, the first of a number of collections featuring Ranglin’s best-loved works, aims to redress this injustice.
The primary focus of the collection is the two best-selling Trojan albums from 1970, each of which feature a dozen of his finest productions from the period, when the reggae beat was at its most exciting and frenetic. The original LP selections are further bolstered by the very best of Ranglin’s remaining output from the period, with many tracks, like the two long-players themselves, previously unavailable on CD.
