DEFINITIVE 2CD ANTHOLOGY OF THE UK SOUL GROUP
WHO TOOK ON THE WORLD...
- Formed in 1975 in Manchester, England, DELEGATION enjoyed strong periods of success in different markets, at different times during the late 70s and early 80s. Championed by the still under appreciated song writer and producer Ken Gold (The Real Thing, Billy Ocean, Ritz etc.) who, along with partner Mickey Denne have written multiple soul and pop hits, Delegation’s four studio albums, along with non-album tracks and alternative versions, have been distilled in to a two-disc anthology collection celebrating one of the UK’s greatest soul groups. Original member and lead singer Rickey Bailey continues to write and perform with the Delegation band to this day.
- Signing to State Records the groups critically acclaimed first single ‘The Promise of Love’ failed to chart but set the tone for the Gold/Denne compositions produced by Gold that guaranteed a smooth, polished and engaging soul/pop sound allied with very strong lyrics and performances, whether on stripped back ballads, mid-tempo feel-good radio favourites or straight ahead fuel for the dance floor.
- ‘Where Is The Love (We Used To Know)’ and ‘You've Been Doing Me Wrong’ brought the band success in the UK in 1977, but arguably US R&B top 10 and crossover pop hit, the mid-tempo love song ‘Oh Honey’, is the group’s most famous release. It is joined by UK hits and further US R&B hits ‘Someone Oughta Write A Song (About You Baby)’, ‘Welcome To My World’, the blistering ‘Heartache No.9’ and ‘In Love’s Time’, as well as the European hits ‘Put A Little Love On Me’, the super smooth ‘You and I’, ‘Darlin’ (I Think About You)’, ‘In The Night’ and ‘I Wantcha’ Back’. ‘It’s Your Turn’ charted in New Zealand and hit the UK Dance and Soul charts in 1983.
- Big Break Records is proud to present Delegation’s “In Love’s Time: The Delegation Story (1976-1983)”. Featuring all the group’s hit singles from across the globe, as well as comprehensive liner notes from Stephen Schnee incorporating new interviews with Ricky Bailey and Ken Gold, this is essential listening for all R&B, Soul, Disco and Pop fans.
