Description
It was after his seventieth birthday that Georg Philipp Telemann composed this festive music for the consecration of the newly constructed church in Nienstaedten, near Hamburg, to be held on 16 May 1751. What appears at first glance to be a simple cantata turns out to be a masterpiece brimming with ideas and imagination. Telemann often used these occasional works as fields of experimentation for the further development of his compositional style; as a result, the modernity, originality and intelligent design of these three works cannot fail to amaze. In addition to 'Zerschmettert die Goetzen', 'Dorothee Mields' and Klaus Mertens sings two previously unreleased cantatas from Telemann's early Frankfurt years.
