Description
Anita Kerr made an inestimable contribution to the creation of The Nashville Sound which revolutionised country music in the mid-1950s. The services of her singers, and of her unique skills as arranger, were in perpetual demand during that historic period when they contributed to literally hundreds of the era's most prominent recordings, including hits by Jim Reeves, Roy Orbison, Floyd Cramer, Patsy Cline, The Browns, Hank Snow and Eddy Arnold.
In 1962, Anita became the first woman to oversee a Nashville Sound recording when she produced Skeeter Davis' successful early crossover album, The End of the World.
Produced by Chet Atkins, Tender Words is the sequel to the Kerr Singers'' popular salute to Ray Charles, "The Genius" In Harmony. If, on that album, the emphasis was on the pressures of adult life, here it is on the sweet love pain of youth, delivered in inimitable style.
The second feature is the Chet Atkins / Kerr Singers album variously known (in different editions) as The Amazing Chet Atkins, The Best Chet Yet, and Chet Atkins, If You Please. One of Chet Atkins'' most serious rarities, the sessions were recorded in 1957 for the performance rights organisation SESAC.
The albums are complimented by the inclusion of the charming Peek A Boo Moon from the LP Chet Atkins and His Guitar, a skilfully realised vignette which finds both singers and guitarist in playful harmony.
