Description
Singer, songwriter, record label owner, DJ and journalist - there were not many hats that Slim Willet didn't wear during his three decades in the music business.
Slim only had one hit record and one hit song - and it was one that his record label boss disliked and was reluctant to release - but what a hit 'Don't Let The Stars Get In Your Eyes' turned out to be! Covered in all markets as a new release, it took Slim high into the country charts before becoming an even bigger hit - a #1 in fact - for his fellow country artist Skeets McDonald, and topping the pop charts for Perry Como in both the US and UK. Moreover it was the biggest chart hit record that his record label Four Star enjoyed in its entire 30+ years of existence!
Everything else Slim wrote and recorded took second place to 'Stars' but it was by no means the only good record he made, and Jasmine's extensive overview of (almost) his entire career features the very best of them, from out and out hillbilly to attempts at rockabilly to a rare late 1950s album of songs about the oil rigs (and those who worked on them) that were the main industry of his North West Texas home base.
If you like 1950s country music, there's a lot of it to enjoy in this Jasmine collection. Don't let the stars get in your eyes - but do let Slim's songs get in your ears!
