Description
• This package is an absolute essential in any music collection featuring two of the finest folk albums ever recorded.
• These two albums appear together for the first time on one CD.
• The McGarrigle Sisters, Kate and Anna, were an iconic duo unique in the folk/country music world whose harmonies were second to none.
Kate and Anna’s 1976 self-titled debut album was chosen by Melody Maker as Best Record of the Year.
Their backing band on this album includes Loudon Wainwright III (uncredited on 'Go Leave'). Loudon was Kate’s husband at the time and the father of their two children, Rufus and Martha Wainwright, both successful singer/songwriters.
Linda Ronstadt had major success with her recording of Anna McGarrigle’s composition 'Heart Like A Wheel’, a song featured on this debut album.
The second album in this package 'Dancer With Bruised Knees’, released in 1977, followed the rapturous reception of their debut and continued their reputation for producing rare, beautiful songs documenting their idiosyncratic family life.
Kate and Anna McGarrigle received the Lifetime Achievement Award at the SOCAN Awards. The Society of Composers, Authors and Music of Canada honoured the sisters in 2006.
Kate was diagnosed with cancer in that same year and in January 2010 at the age of 63, Kate McGarrigle died of this rare sub-type sarcoma just six weeks after her last public appearance with Rufus and Martha Wainwright at the Royal Albert Hall. The sisters received the 2010 MOJO Roots Award following Kate’s death. The award was presented by Emmylou Harris and accepted by Anna and Kate’s children Rufus and Martha.
