Not even in Holland many people know that Dick van Altena is one of the most successful and looked for songwriters in his own country. He has written songs, mostly on request, for renowned Dutch artists like Henk Wijngaard, Mooi Wark, Toni Willé ('Pussycat'), De Sjonnies and Saskia & Serge.
He is often called the Dutch equivalent of Kris Kristofferson. But, although definitely inspired by his writing and performance, Dick is far too modest to compare himself with Kristofferson or with any of his other musical heroes for that matter.
