  • Description

Goldbrun is saxophonist Yuri Honing's answer to John Coltrane's A Love Supreme (1965). Following his successful album Desire, Honing offers us a jazz album inspired by his love of classical music, history and art whilst also expressing a plea for unity in Europe.

Goldbrun is a non-existent term and for Honing it stands for the way he composed this album.
'I compose from a core and work from there to the edges, as are harmonic structures that start in the middle and spreads out. It's a spherical thing, Goldbrun.'
Honing was particularly inspired by the beauty of both Richard Wagner's (1813-1883) and of Richard Strauss's music (1864-1949), exemplified in track 4, Goldbrun IV.

Yuri Honing is joined by Joost Lijbaart (drums), Gulli Gudmundsson (double bass) and Wolfert Brederode (piano) to create an album that breathes peace, serenity, tension and mysticism.
