Description
The Great Wee Band follows up their critically acclaimed 'Sound of Music' album with a new studio recording featuring a special guest, tenor saxophonist Stan Sulzmann, along with the original lineup - Henry Lowther, trumpet and flugelhorn, Jim Mullen, guitar, Dave Green at the bass, and Stu Butterfield on drums.
The Great Wee Band band has performed as a unit since 1999 and the names of its members will be familiar to anyone with an interest in the UK Jazz scene. It has toured nationally on several occasions and has performed at major festivals and jazz venues to great acclaim. To celebrate Henry Lowther's 70th birthday this year, the band recently recorded a special concert at the BBC's Maida Vale studios. This was subsequently broadcast in September 2011 on BBC Radio 3's "Jazz Lineup."
Personnel: Henry Lowther (trumpet & flugelhorn), Jim Mullen (guitar), Dave Green (bass), Stu Butterfield (drums), Stan Sulzmann (tenor saxophone - 2,4,6)
