Description
Pianist Taeko Kunishima was a long-term resident in both Japan and London and is now based in West Wales, her trademark lyricism is found again on her fifth album release, Dictionary Land.
Taeko has newly composed eight beautiful pieces, in a thoughtful, melodic vein. Her music shifts elegantly from melody to improvisation and sometimes starting with the waves and a song thrush or a train over a bridge in Japan, created by Jeremy Hawkins' field recordings, and at the ending again. The first track and also title name of the album serves to highlight Paul Moylan on double bass, as he played the 'Dictionary Land' solo. Paul's bowing bass for the melody line on the first track 'Dictionary Land' and also using the Taqsim style Middle Eastern improvised melody for 'Image and Space' added a Middle Eastern element to the recordings .She had long absence from music activity in her youth due to living in the Middle East and few years after that, in London. Her compositions reflect the emotional experience of the diverse cultures.
