Vocal powerhouse Emma Dunlop returns with her second album, Somebody Call The Alliance, released on coloured vinyl and CD by independent label Last Night From Glasgow.
This carefully crafted collection focuses on the idea of looking back to move forward. With themes of reflection, resilience and growth, the album revisits material written over two decades ago with the insight that comes with experience and age. Like all of Dunlop's work, the album started to take shape at home using GarageBand. With the support of North Lanarkshire Council and LNFG, the record was then developed and nurtured at Beetroot Studios with producer Stuart MacLeod, whose expertise helped bring the project to life.
"One question I get asked is, who are the alliance? They're whoever you want and need them to be. While my first album (Eleven Eleven) was about being in the right place at the right time, Somebody Call The Alliance focuses on the idea of looking back to move forward, and recognising what you need to rally both within and around yourself to do that. There are songs on the album that I wrote as a teenager which meant revisiting them through the lens of someone older, and with more empathy for the girl who wrote them than I was able to show at the time.
Our experiences, much like music, are a blend of the organic and the engineered. I wanted to evoke that with the album artwork, shot by my incredibly talented girlfriend, esteemed photographer YesZebra. At Beetroot, the album was mixed by Stuart MacLeod and produced by myself with Stuart over the course of 2025-2026. Stuart's expertise and tutorage has unlocked the potential in this record that I couldn't quite reach til now."
