Description
Flautist, composer and educator Eddie Parker is a stalwart of the UK Jazz scene. He first came to prominence as a key contributor to seminal 1980s big band Loose Tubes. The Debussy Mirrored Ensemble marks a return to arrangement and composition for Parker, after many years in education.
The ensemble re-imagines the music of Debussy through new compositions - and this recording (from a London Jazz Festival performance broadcast on BBC Radio 3) captures the essence of their music.
The performance blurs the lines between jazz and classical writing, taking inspiration from the composer's original themes and creating something totally new.
Eddie has handpicked this 12 piece ensemble to turn his creative vision into reality. These musicians, from classical, jazz and improvisation disciplines - including flautist Gareth Lockrane, pianist Alcyona Mick, vocalist Brigitte Beraha, tenor James Gilchrist and clarinettist James Allsopp - collaborate to transform a dozen of Debussy's pieces into something incredibly unique, powerful and contemporary whilst capturing the revolutionary spirit of Debussy.
Personnel: Eddie Parker (flutes, Moog), James Allsopp clarinet, bass clarinet), Gareth Lockrane flutes, piccolo), Jan Hendrickse (flute, nay), Rowland Sutherland (flute), Alcyona Mick (piano), James Gilchrist, Brigitte Beraha (voice), Imogen Ridge (harp), Steve Watts bass), Simon Limbrick (vibes, percussion), Martin France (drums)
