  • Description

Repress of a classic SteepleChase LP from 1976 by violinist Claude Williams, who had a long and active career into his 90s. Alongside pianist Horace Parlan, he performs a mixture of jazz and popular standards.

Williams, was born in Oklahoma 1908, he started playing guitar at the age of 10 and later learned to play violin as well. His distinguished career included performing and recording with the Count Basie Big Band.

"Claude Williams is something different: a fiddler who practically raised the roof, who stomps and improvises juicily on the chords and saws away on the stringed axe as though it was a jazz horn." - Melody Maker
