Clyde McPhatter fronted Federal Records super-group Billy Ward and His Dominoes, and his career at Atlantic Records began when he helped form The Drifters, and he then gained international solo fame while signed to the label. The album additionally explores key performances for MGM and Mercury Records. McPhatter was blessed with a distinctive high tenor vocal with heavy use of melisma and sang with gospel fervor and, every recording is embellished with finesse. His "crying tenor" vocal has been imitated but never bettered!
