Description
Canadian pianist Jarred Dunn presents Gorecki's World of the Piano, his first recording for ATMA Classique.
This album highlights the piano works of Polish composer Henryk Mikolaj Gorecki. For the recording of the two-piano opuses, Jarred Dunn is joined by Anna Gorecka, the composer's daughter.
The recording offers the complete works for one and two pianos by Gorecki, an intimate oeuvre rich in personal and historical significance. Included is a previously unreleased cycle, Piec utworow na dwa fortepiany [Five Pieces for Two Pianos], Op. 13, which concludes the recording of Gorecki's complete works for piano.
Composed in the dark and difficult context of post-war Poland, his piano works, though fewer in number than his symphonic and choral works, reflect his early musical style.
Yamaha Artist Jarred Dunn enjoys a prosperous career. Described as "a piano sound-colour magician" (Muzikos Barai), "a thinking pianist who knows how to place every note" (La Scena Musicale), and "technically perfect" (Belarus First Radio), Dunn won the first prize and concerto award at the Lithuanian International Chopin Competition (Vilnius), and prizes at Jan Hoffman (Krakow), Verona Zinetti, and Rome International Competitions.
Pianist Anna Gorecka was born into the family of a composer and pianist (Henryk Mikolaj Gorecki and Jadwiga Ruranska-Gorecka) and graduated with distinction from the Katowice Academy of Music, and is a prizewinner of the Senigallia and Brahms (Hamburg) International Piano Competitions and the 25th Polish Piano Festival (Slupsk).
