Description
This rare recording by Latvian violinist Eduard Wulfson and Serbian pianist Mira Yevtich was recorded in the Lisinski Concert Hall, Zagreb in 1983 and features romantic repertoire from both the 19th and 20th centuries. The CD brings together romantic pieces by Brahms, Tchaikovsky, Ernest Bloch, and the little know Croatian composer, Stjepan Šulek.
As there are no other version listed of Šulek's 'Study in Memory of V.Huml', it may possibly be entirely new to the catalogue.
Described by late Yehudi Menuhin as "a player in the very best Russian tradition", Latvian violinist Eduard Wulfson may be an unfamiliar name to the public at large, but in the inner circles of classical music, he's a highly respected professor, musician, teacher and mentor of young talent, one of whom includes the then Hungarian protégé Kristóf Baráti (Brilliant Classics). Eduard Wulfson is also a world authority on rare stringed-instruments, and through his Geneva based company Rare Musical Instruments Consulting, sources the finest and rarest instruments for individual players, institutions and private collectors.
As a recording artist, CDs featuring Eduard Wulfson are rather thin on the ground; there are just two currently, and both on Naxos. One in which he performs with Valeri Grohovski (piano) and Dmitry Yablonsky (cello) in a programme of Rachmaninov piano trios, and the other a multi-artist/composer compilation of romantic repertoire.
