  • Description

On Crossings, Apollo5 invites listeners on a musical journey across Europe, following the historic Via Francigena pilgrimage route from Canterbury to Rome. Blending Renaissance treasures with newly commissioned works and exclusive arrangements, the album explores themes of travel, transformation and human connection through a programme that is both imaginative and immediately accessible.

The recording showcases Apollo5's celebrated versatility, pairing music by Tallis, Palestrina, Lassus and Morley with contemporary voices including Shruthi Rajasekar, Francis Pott and Piers Connor Kennedy. Two world-premiere commissions and three arrangements written especially for the ensemble create fresh perspectives on a repertoire that spans more than 500 years, while maintaining a clear and engaging narrative thread.

From the exuberant energy of Strike it up, Tabor to the reflective beauty of Whither Must I Wander, the atmospheric sweep of Who Has Seen the Wind? and the radiant polyphony of Renaissance Rome, Crossings offers a rich and varied listening experience that appeals equally to early music enthusiasts and contemporary choral audiences.
