Description
The talented young Slovenian guitarist Mak Grgic performs music that has achieved world-wide popularity through movie soundtracks. Amongst the pieces on Cinema Verismo - all specially arranged for the classical guitar by John Williams, David Russell, Grgic himself and others - are Nino Rota's waltz from 'The Godfather', Stanley Myers' Cavatina from 'The Deerhunter', Albinoni's Adagio, which was made famous through the films 'Gallopoli' and 'The Elephant Man', the 'Chariots of Fire' theme by Vangelis, and two of Ennio Morricone's signature pieces, the heartbreaking Gabriel's Oboe from 'The Mission' and the famous theme for Sergio Leone's 'The Good, The Bad and The Ugly'.
Born in 1987 in Ljubljana, Slovenia, guitarist Mak Grgic's early studies were with the revered Ante Cagalj at the Elly Bašic Conservatory of Music. He obtained his Bachelor's Degree with Alvaro Pierri at the Universität für Musik und darstellende Kunst in Vienna, Austria. He has been a soloist with orchestras in the United States, Russia, Slovenia and Croatia, including the Spokane Symphony at Sandpoint Festival, and the RTV Slovenia Symphony Orchestra and conductor Ivo Lipanovic. Invited to venues worldwide, he has performed at major performing arts centres, festivals, and well-known guitar societies.
He took first prize at the Guitar Competition "Luigi Mozzani" in Italy and the Pacific Guitar Festival and Competition 2011 in California, and has also won prizes at the Andres Segovia International Competition for young guitarists in Velbert, Germany, the Forum Gitarre Wien International Competition in Vienna, Austria, the International Guitar Competition in Arrenzano, Italy, the Anna Amalia Competition for young guitarists in Weimar, Germany, the International Guitarart Festival, and the European Classical Guitar Competition "Enrico Mercatali" in Italy.
