Spiritual Year 4: Christmas Oratorio
Jorg Herchet's Christmas Oratorio was created as part of a composition commission from the International Bach Academy in Stuttgart. The Cantate 1 was premiered on December 7th, 2013 in the Stuttgart Liederhalle under the direction of Hans-Christoph Rademann, the Cantate 2 on June 4th, 2015 at the same place and under the same management.
In the Christuskirche Dresden, the entire work was heard for the first time on 18 December 2016 with the kind permission of the International Bach Academy Stuttgart; the Cantata 3 had its premiere.
The present double CD, based on a recording by Deutschlandfunk, documents this performance.
