  • Description

Pure Hell were a first-generation US punk band formed in Philadelphia in 1974 and active in New York City from 1974 to 1978.

Contemporaries of the New York Dolls, their incendiary sound was inspired by The Stooges and the MC5. They were also the first-ever all-African-American punk band.

Pure Hell were managed by R&B singer Curtis Knight, best known for his association with Jimi Hendrix.

They issued just one single during their lifetime, a raucous version of Nancy Sinatra's 'These Boots Are Made For Walking'. Released in the UK in 1978 on Curtis Knight's Golden Sphinx label, it made the Top 10 in the Alternative Chart.

Noise Addiction is a lost punk classic that lay unreleased for 27 years. This reissue has been remastered and repackaged, with sleeve notes based on an interview with frontman Kenny 'Stinker' Gordon.

This two-disc set includes a 30-minute live-in-the-studio DVD filmed for a New York cable TV station in 1978 that includes two non-album tracks.
