In this two compact disc complete format Rodolfo Richter violin and James Johnstone harpsichord perform the 6 Sonatas for Violin by Johann Sebastian Bach BWV 1014 -1019. Rodolfo Richter teachers baroque violin at the Royal College of Music in London. He has recorded as a violin soloist for Channel Classics, Harmonia Mundi USA, Linn Records and Hyperion. Metronome is delighted to welcome him onto the label with its baroque keyboard artist James Johnstone as a leading Bach interpreter James Johnstone recent release of the Art of Fugue is making waves (METCD1111-1112). He also has a project to record the complete Bach Organ works with Metronome Recordings While we associate Bach for his mastery of the keyboard instruments, he also played the violin to such a high level that his initial employment at the court of Weimar was as an ensemble violinist rising later to concertmaster. The testimony of his sons refers to Bach playing the violin "purely and powerfully" into his old age and three violins were registered as his chattels in his will.
