Description
Atma Classique presents Excursions interieures, a new recording dedicated to the music of Quebec composer Jimmie LeBlanc, performed by the Paramirabo ensemble under the direction of Jean-Michael Lavoie, featuring mezzo-soprano Marie-Annick Beliveau. This ambitious project offers a gripping exploration of the tensions between body, language, and perception, at the intersection of contemporary musical creation and philosophical reflection. Through four major works, Jimmie LeBlanc explores the many facets of the human experience. His writing, characterized by a textural and sensory approach, examines our relationship with the world through themes such as the multiplicity of identity, the materiality of sound, and the upheavals of our time. Inspired by literature as well as contemporary thought, the composer draws on a rich array of references, ranging from the commedia dell'arte to reflections on language and perception. The central work, *Excursions interieures I: Desir de verre*, sets a poem by Michael Trahan to music and offers an intimate exploration of the psyche, navigating the realms of memory, the imagination, and external influences. A leading figure on the contemporary music scene, the Paramirabo Ensemble known for its bold performances and its support of today's composers brings these works to life with remarkable precision and intensity.
