Description
Clarinettist Marieke Vos & the Ruysdael Quartet here perform two gems from the clarinet quintet repertoire: Mozart's Clarinet Quintet KV 581 and the Clarinet Quintet Souvenir du Voyage by Bernard Herrmann. A period of 178 years separates these two works. The title of this CD, taken directly from Herrmann's Clarinet Quintet Souvenir du Voyage, is a reflection of these two contrasting clarinet quintets. The different eras in which Mozart and Herrmann lived when they wrote these clarinet quintets are clearly audible in their music. Marieke Vos is a Dutch clarinettist and performs as a chamber musician in a wide variety of concerts. The Ruysdael Quartet has been one of the leading Dutch string quartets for more than 25 years. The quartet can frequently be heard on the radio and on all Dutch concert podia. They perform often outside the Netherlands, with a number of tours in Japan as well as recent appearances at the Brighton Festival in the UK and are dedicatees of many compositions including Jorg Widmann's Quartet no. 9.
