Description
Laura van der Heijden and Jams Coleman explore the world of francophone music from the decades around the turn of the twentieth century. Titled Lumiere (light) this album focuses on music of consolation and warmth. Initially inspired by Jules Delsart's transcription of Franck's Violin Sonata (made with the composer's blessing), many months of research led to a programme full of discoveries and surprises. Mel Bonis studied with Franck, and her unjustly neglected Cello Sonata features alongside music by Boulanger, Faure, Massenet and Milhaud. The programme opens with Paix (peace) by Charlotte Sohy, which the performers discovered via a recording by tenor Cyrille Dubois and pianist Tristan Raes.
