WORLD PREMIERE RECORDING of 'Diabelleries: Variations on a theme 'Oh! where's my lovely basket gone'
The Cologne Chamber Soloists, a cosmopolitan group of young musicians who have quickly become one of the leading ensembles in Germany, present a unique album dedicated to the instrumental Chamber Music of Gerald Finzi.
The album also includes the world premiere recording of Diabelleries, a stunning mid-twentieth century composite initiated by Ralph Vaughan Williams, a lost work which the group rediscovered with the support of the Finzi Trust. Diabelleries features original works by eight different British composers, including Lutyens, Maconchy, Bush, Rawsthorne, Williams, Ferguson, Jacob and Finzi. For the first time in 70 years, listeners can also enjoy variations on "Oh!, where's my little basket gone?", the theme attributed to Alfred Scott-Gatty.
From the early Introit to the Diabelleries, which Finzi composed at the end of his life, this portrait by the Cologne Chamber Soloists ranges over the composer's entire life.
The result is a fascinating overview of British music during the first half of the twentieth century.
