Description
Apart from being a brilliant composer, Taneyev was an important teacher — his pupils at the Moscow Conservatoire included Rachmaninov and Scriabin — and is honoured as the founder of the great Russian pianistic tradition.
The chamber music ensemble on this recording richly deserves its name of Belcanto Strings: the three musicians have demonstrated a passionate commitment to tonal balance and a breadth and depth of interpretative comprehension in seldom played chamber music works. Their MDG recording of the Fuchs/Reinecke string trios was duly credited with "captivating suggestivity" (SCALA) and "opulent, luxurious sound" (FONOFORUM) and praised as a "brilliant reading" (PICCICATO).
