Description
An intriguing recital by one of the most interesting and talented mezzo-sopranos of today: Olivia Vermeulen with her accompanist Jan Philip Schulze. From Henry Purcell to Jake Heggie, via the greatest Romantic and Expressionist Lied composers, this is a survey of texts about love and sex set to music.
Olivia Vermeulen: The topic: eroticism, lust, sex, power and violence, prostitution and murder, and all areas in the high-voltage field in between: set to music, complex and extremely topical. If the erotic may not be named, it slips into subtexts. With this album we want to highlight the intentions and
meanings – and also the abysses – of these songs. One may turn away with a shudder or sit back and relax in the face of this achievement in sublimation. The fact that erotic abysses, desires and traumas have always been the cause of great art cannot be denied, nor the fact that art and music would not exist without "dirty minds".
