From 1995 on, each time Cesaria Evora went into the studio, her producer José da Silva got her to record more tracks than were actually needed for the new album. The aim was to choose a set of songs that fitted together naturally and formed a harmonious record that would delight listeners from start to finish - one of the reasons for Cesaria's commercial success. Some of the surplus tracks were left incomplete for technical reasons or because Cesaria so decided.
Now, a year after the artist died in Mindelo on December 17, 2011, we have used this extra material to produce an album of 13 previously unreleased tracks, beginning with a first, unpublished version of the superb morna Sentimento recorded in 2003 (later, in 2009, Cesaria re-recorded the track with deeper vocals for her last album, "Nha Sentimento"). -
