Carole King and Gerry Goffin were arguably the most significant songwriting partnership of the early 1960s (along with Barry Mann & Cynthia Weil, and Burt Bacharach & Hal David). Goffin and King composed a string of classic hits during the Sixties for a variety of artists. Their impeccably structured tunes covered an impressive range of styles (pop, soul, rhythm & blues, rock & roll...), and their songbook still sounds fresh 50-plus years later.
This album puts together some of the best vocal sides recorded by Carole King herself in the late 1950s and early 1960s, including many of the hit songs she wrote in collaboration with Gerry Goffin.
"I only wanted to be a songwriter. I never wanted to be a singer. And I never wanted to be famous."- Carole King
