Domenico, son of Alessandro Scarlatti (1660-1725), one of the gre-at Italian composers, was born in Naples in 1685. In a letter addres-sed to Ferdinand de' Medici, Alessandro says, "This son of mine is an eagle whose wings are grown; he ought not to stay idle in the nest, and I ought not to hinder his flight." Domenico Scarlatti (1685-1757) composed 555 keyboard sonatas, renowned for their virtuosity, inventive style, and Spanish musical influences. This recording is performed by Finnish harpsichordist Aapo Hakkinen on the historic Joao Baptista Antunes (1789) harpsichord
