Description
Ludivine Issambourg has been one of the most recognisable flautists, composers and producers in France for almost 15 years. With 'Above the Laws', she gives a highly anticipated follow-up to the album 'Outlaws', released in 2020, which received among others the congratulations of the legendary American flautist Hubert Laws himself, whose jazz funk work she revisited.
She continues her homage to other of her great inspirations: Gil Scott Heron, Nils Landgren, and other flautists who have greatly influenced her such as Jeremy Steig, Bobbi Humphrey and Dave Valentin. It features original compositions by Ludivine, imbued with the 70's jazz funk tradition of the CTI label, as well as carefully selected covers.
For the occasion, she brings together a team of renowned producers: Eric Legnini, Michael Lecoq, Laurent de Wilde and Alex Finkine. Always passionate about the mix of jazz expression techniques and those of funk, Ludivine brings a modern and resolutely current vision of jazz, inspired in recent years by the English scene (Kamaal Williams, Yussef Dayes, Nubiyan Twist) or American scene (Snarky Puppy).
She explores all the flutes, particularly alto and bass, orchestrated for the first time here with a brass section and surrounds herself with outstanding musicians, including guests Brian Jackson, Nils Landgren, Wolfgang Valbrun, Laurent de Wilde, Chassol, Eric Legnini, Celine Bonacina. Plus a superb band: Ludivine Issambourg (flutes), Swaeli Mbappe (bass), Michael Lecoq (keys), Yoann Serra (drums), Vincent Aubert (trombone), Lucas St Cricq, Sylvain Fetis (saxophones).
