Description
A performance of Leo Ornstein's Piano Quintet by Marc-Andre Hamelin and the Pacifica Quartet in November 2013 left New York Times critic Corinna da Fonseca-Wollheim "baffled as to why this masterful work of chamber music is not part of the standard repertoire". It is even more baffling that to this day, the work is rarely performed in Europe and the name of its composer is known only by a few. The playing of the Asasello Quartet admits no contradiction between avant-garde innovation and classical education. The ensemble takes responsibility - in its repertoire, through interdisciplinary cooperation with dance and visual art and as promoter - for the prime discipline of the string quartet in the twenty-first century, continuing to promote dialogue between East and West. The commitment of the Asasello Quartet and the quality of its work have been repeatedly honoured with awards and many years of work with arts foundations and public cultural institutions enable the continuing realisation of the ensemble's ideas. The Asasello Quartet is the regular recipient of invitations to important festivals and concerts, while its recordings enjoy international recognition and have been honoured among other things with the German Record Critics' Prize and Gramophone Editor's Choice.
