  • Description

This lost classic by Bobby Wellins, one of the UK's leading jazz saxophonists, is available once again, this time with the addition of a previously unreleased solo piano track featuring the late pianist Pete Jacobsen.

Made as a one-off for a private label, 'Birds of Brazil' was released in 1989 and was only available briefly. Wellins wrote the suite to draw attention to endangered species and in particular the birds of Brazil. It features Wellins' regular quartet with the accomplished pianist Pete Jacobsen who sadly died in 2002 at the age of 51.

The eminent jazz musician Tony Coe provided orchestrations for the 'Birds of Brazil' suite which features the Delmé String Quartet and they can also be heard on 'Angel Eyes'. The recording is completed by two tracks from the quartet and a previously unreleased solo piano piece from Jacobsen which has been added to the original album as a tribute to him.

Personnel: Bobby Wellins (tenor saxophone), Pete Jacobsen (piano, Rhodes piano), Ken Baldock (bass), Spike Wells (drums), Kenny Wheeler (trumpet, flugelhorn), Chris Karan (percussion), Delmé String Quartet, Tony Coe (orchestration)
