Description
Theodore is the name of Amsterdam bluesman Theo Sieben - Theo is a musician who has earned his spurs in pop- and roots music as a session guitarist or as a composer of film- and theater music - As a session musician, he played slide guitar with the likes of Dutch mega stars Hennie Vrienten and Douwe Bob - Much in demand as a sesion player, he also plays in Her Majesty, a super group of renowned Dutch musicians.
With "Theodore," he is striking out in a new direction and he will continue as a bluesman under that, his own, name from now on. He performs acoustic blues songs in a virtuoso fingerpicking style,
but always in the rhythm of the heart, performed by one man and his guitar. With a soulful voice he likes to bridge the gap between old acoustic blues and ragtime, 60s revival folk, and modern
blues.
Theodore - The album
On this album, "Theodore," that bears his own name, Theo Sieben returns to the bare basics with just his voice and guitar. His voice sings over the sound of old Martin guitars, National Resonator guitars, a lapstyle Regal, or a lonesome Vega banjo.
All recorded with a single vintage microphone in his loft, a few floors below an Amsterdam hotel. Much like they did in the 30s and 40s. The acoustic blues music that inspired this album bridges the gap between the 1930's, the folk revival of the 1960's, and the modern acoustic blues of today.
Enjoy! Theo "Theodore" Sieben
