Description
Combining the swing of Count Basie, the beat of Buddy Johnson and the New Orleans lilt of Fats Domino, the J Street Jumpers are one of the East Coast of America's most popular swing bands, creating a sound that is a restoration of the classic swing and jump-blues of the 1930s, '40s and '50s. The nine-piece band comprises Carmen Velarde (vocals), Vince McCool (trumpet), Steve Shaw (trombone), Don Lerman (alto sax, arranger), Charlie Hubel (tenor/baritone sax), Arthur Gerstein (vocals, piano), Rusty Bogart (guitar), Adam Friedman (upright bass) and Jeff Lodson (drums). Here they perform 13 tracks mixing songs associated with Helen Humes, Dinah Washington and Ella Fitzgerald with some hard blues boogies and bouncy instrumentals, the horn players booting while the rhythm section assures that everything swings, bounces and buzzard lopes with the appropriate taste of fatback and kidney stew.
