Description
Based in Jacksonville, Florida, JJ Grey & Mofro (formerly just Mofro) are creators of a singular musical mix they like to call "front porch soul". JJ Grey is a gifted singer/songwriter whose distinctly Southern lyrics play out over Mofro's dazzling display of fire-breathing R&B, swampy blues, aching soul and funky, Dixie-fried rock.
He is wildly popular in his native state and throughout the Southeast USA, with additional key fan bases in New York, Boston, Chicago, Indianapolis, Denver, Seattle and San Francisco. Despite being released on a relatively low-profile indie, his two previous releases (credited as Mofro) have sold impressively, with 2001's 'Blackwater' at nearly 22'000 scans and 2004's 'Lochloosa' over 24'000 (USA Only).
JJ Grey's mushrooming audience is based in large part on a stellar live show that has earned him a strong national touring base, routinely playing 500-1500 seat venues in the above-mentioned markets. The group averages 120 dates a year at clubs, theatres and festivals across the USA. Although presently an unknown quantity in the UK, this new release is set to start spreading Grey & Mofro's reputation across the Atlantic.
