Description
Fourth album from the Californian bluesman and songwriter, now resident in the UK. A mixture of Blues, Folk and Americana, mixed with wry humour.
Prodigal Songs is the latest release from Californian Guy Tortora, now transplanted from the USA to the UK. It’s a mixture of original songs and a few choice covers with his unique take on American, blues and folk. Originals include the opening track Big Wheel where a wistful National guitar gets you heading down the highway, Miss You So is a tense and terse blues, That’s Against The Law makes a little nod in the direction of Johnny Cash and Bobby Zimmerman, Willie Dixon is dedicated to the great Chicago bluesman – and Hero of the Blues -- reminiscent of Lowell George and Little Feat, 'Quittin’ Time' is a working man’s blues, and the heartfelt 'Prodigal Song' deals with clearing out the house of a parent who has recently passed away. Covers include the Band’s 'Rag Mama Rag', Eric Bibb’s 'Too Much Stuff', the New Orleans-style jug band tune 'Viola Lee Blues', and a unique solo version of the American country spiritual 'Wayfaring Stranger'. “A master songsmith . . . file it under Tortoriana! Ashwyn Smythe -- Blues Matters!
Also available GTXCD01 'FOOTNOTE TO THE BLUES'. GTXCD02 'JEFFERSON DRIVE'. GTXCD03 'LIVING ON CREDIT'
