Description
Gutsy folk-rock, brought kicking and screaming into the 21st Century.
The second album from York's folk-heroes cements their reputation as the most formidable party band on the folk scene. 'Whip Jamboree' elaborates on the fun stompy sound the band are known for - where accomplished musicianship meets creative ingenuity - but now with added attitude.
For source material, the band once again mine the sea-shanty tradition for gutsy sing-along moments, but there are also tales here of menacing anti-heroes, forgotten soldiers and put-upon bachelors. Meanwhile the tunes, both traditional and newly composed, usher in the most funky and danceable moments.
'Whip Jamboree' builds upon its award winning, unreleased, predecessor - 'Tomorrow We'll Be Sober' - rather than being a complete departure; but it's a darker, tighter, more fully-realised listen.
