Description
Active as a composer since the mid-1960s,Daniel Bortz is widely regarded today as one ofthe most important composers in Swedishmusical history. His music has always beencharacterised by its simplicity and precision, which highlight the power of his emotionallycharged messages. The three works presented here share acommon thread of a personal kind: thecollaboration with violinist and violist MalinBroman. She has been a direct source ofinspiration for all three works; First as a memberof the Kungsbacka Piano Trio, later as artisticdirector of the string orchestra Musica Vitae, andfinally as soloist in Double Concerto for One. Inher various roles, she has functioned both as aninterpreter and a catalyst.About Double Concerto for One, Broman said:"An incredibly beautiful and dramatic work.Daniel's music is close to song; it feels as thoughyou are singing when you play." The concerto isfollowed by Sinfonia 14, written for stringorchestra alone. This large-scale, emotionallyintense work features volcanic outburstsalongside moments of stillness. The Piano Trioconcludes the program with a powerful, drivingopening, a deeply emotional slow middlemovement, and a finale of irresistible energy.
