Description
This CD, with its Romantic-era programme, has been recorded in dedication of our love of the viola and the music of Robert Schumann. This first-ever recording on the viola of the Sonata in A minor, Op. 105 for violin and piano by Robert Schumann is truly a landmark for the viola repertoire and for the listening public. On the viola, the sonata sounds fantastic, very natural, and gains in new, warm, expressive timbres which serve to emphasize the deep resonant tone of the sonata. The works we have selected offer a lovely variety of moods and characters. César Franck's wonderful and well-known sonata matches the works by Schumann perfectly, for all three of the varied themes addressed on this CD come together to form an overall programme inspired by the high Romantic era.' (Berlin Chamber Duo - Máté Szücs, viola and Michèle Gurdal, piano. Excerpts from the booklet.)
