Description
This release contains the complete original LP The Art Tatum Trio (Verve MGV-8118), pairing the superb pianist with bassist Red Callender and the great swing drummer Jo Jones (this is the only existing studio collaborations between Tatum and Jones). This was among the last sessions recorded by Tatum, who would die soon after on November 5, 1956 at the age of 47. As a bonus to the ten tracks on the original album, included are different versions by Tatum of seven of the LP's songs, which have been organised here in the same song order as on the Tatum-Callender-Jones date.
The Poll Winners label is devoted to the CD reissue of albums that received the maximum 5-star rating in a Down Beat album review. This only rarely happened, and most of the Down Beat albums have become true classics revered by all music lovers. These new editions present the complete original 5-star albums, which are expanded to include interesting bonus albums or tracks by the artist at the peak of their talents.
