Description
Acclaimed as the "Piano Prince of New Orleans", Davell Crawford delivers his first studio album for 10 years, an eclectic mix of rhythm and blues, funk, blues, gospel, soul, pop, American folk and the odd touch of country.
A stellar lineup of guest musicians includes Dr John, saxophonist Donald Harrison, bluesman Walter 'Wolfman' Washington, trumpeter Nicholas Payton, accordionist/fiddler Steve Riley and flautist Bobbi Humphrey.
As well as Crawford's own originals, they perform his arrangements of covers of compositions by Frankie Beverley (Maze), Stevie Winwood, James Taylor and Billy Joel. Other tracks feature updated versions of classic New Orleans and R&B tunes by the likes of Eugene McDaniels (River), Robert Shad (Junco Partner), and there's a standout solo piano medley of Allen Toussaint's "Southern Nights" and Jimmy Cliff's "Many Rivers to Cross".
Personnel: Davell Crawford (vocals, piano, Hammond B-3, keyboards), Dr John (vocals), Donald Harrison (saxophone), Walter 'Wolfman' Washington (guitar), Nicholas Payton (trumpet), Steve Riley (accordionist/fiddle) Bobbi Humphrey (flute) and many others
