Description
The Furiosi Affetti Ensemble perform duets by Italian violinist, violist and composer Luigi Borghi (1772-1794).
An intense life, that of Luigi Borghi, student of Gaetano Pugnani (1731-1798), in his turn pupil of Giovanni Battista Somis (1686-1763), founder of the great Piemontese violin school. In his early twenties, Borghi travelled in Europe in the wake of the master Pugnani. From 1770 onwards, he resided in London, playing with various opera house orchestras. What emerges from the works and news related to his life is the very close adhesion to a group of people, mainly men and Masons of different nationalities, who made music and art their reason for living. His works include many duets for 2 violins, sonatas, concertos for violin, various ballets and songs, as well as the Six Duets for Violin and Violoncello / Viol Op. 5, object of this CD.
An innovative interest is that of Borghi for the Viol. In his adaptation of the part originally conceived to the cello, the composer emphasizes all the potentialities of the instrument, never skimping on the virtuoso passages and giving to the part a leading role.
