Description
This Hybrid SACD presents three Orchestral Suites and two Oboe Concertos by Georg Philipp Telemann, performed by the excellent specialist period instrument group Bach Consentus conducted by its founder, harpsichordist Ewald Demeyere. The soloist in the concertos is Vinciane Baudhuin.
The prolific 18th century German composer Georg Philipp Telemann successfully drew on all the national styles and prevailing genres of his time in producing his music, creating an enormous body of work for which he received great acclaim during his lifetime. Telemann's Orchestral Suites, three of which are featured here, include some of his most memorable music. Two of his five published Oboe Concertos are also included on the disc, those in C minor, TWV51: c1 and c2.
The period instrument ensemble Bach Concentus was founded in 2007 by the harpsichordist Ewald Demeyere. The group devotes its time to the performance of instrumental and vocal repertoire of the Baroque and Classical periods, specialising in works by the Bach dynasty. The group has produced three recordings to date for the Accent label, which feature symphonies by the sons of J.S. Bach, as well as music by Telemann and Johann Bernhard Bach. This SACD is their debut release on Challenge Classics.
