  • Description

'Slip Slide and Collide' documents a duo collaboration between veteran free jazz bass star Barry Guy, with the exceptional Norwegian saxophonist Torben Snekkestad.

Barry Guy is an innovative bass player and composer whose creative diversity in the fields of jazz improvisation, chamber and orchestral performance and solo recitals is the outcome both of an unusually varied training and a zest for experimentation, underpinned by a dedication to the double bass and the ideal of musical communication. He is founder and Artistic Director of the London Jazz Composers Orchestra and the Barry Guy New Orchestra, for which he has written several extended works. His concert works for chamber orchestras, chamber groups and soloists have been widely performed and his skilful and inventive writing has resulted in an exceptional series of compositions.

Classically educated saxophonist Torben Snekkestad is dedicated to contemporary music and improvisational music of all forms. His wide ranging musical interests have led him into numerous musical settings, ranging from the music of the baroque and classical chamber music, to rock, folk music and free jazz. He is a member of the Copenhagen Saxophone Quartet and has performed as a soloist with orchestras such as The Norwegian Radio Orchestra, Athelas Sinfonietta Copenhagen and the jazz group the Trygve Seim Orchestra.

Personnel: Torben Snekkestad (saxophones, reed-trumpet), Barry Guy (double bass)
