Description
Percussionist Kjell Tore Innervik has invented several instruments for this recording, venturing into new landscapes of sound, performance and composition. Amongst the composers featured are Rolf Wallin and James Wood.
New Interface for Musical Expression (NIME) is an international conference dedicated to scientific research on the development of new technologies for musical expression and artistic performance. Researchers and musicians from all over the world gather to share their knowledge and latest work on new musical interface design. Together with co-producer and engineer Mats Claesson Kjell Tore Innervik has interpreted nine different scores written especially for him and the new instruments. The composers, David Bratlie, Øyvind Torvund, Peter Tornquist, Raghild Berstad, Ivar Frounberg, Rolf Wallin, James Wood, and Erik Dæhlin have all left their pieces in the hands of Innervik and Claesson, not only to be performed on a stage, but also for the creative process to be continued into the recording and mixing studio.
Both the performance and the instruments on this recording provide a visual aspect that is an important element of the experience. The video and performance artist Lavasir Nordrum was therefore invited to interpret the project, and the result is a 20-minute film, a DVD of which is included in the package.
Personnel: Kjell Tore Innervik (various instruments including quartertone marimba, percussion, balloons and other items hit or caressed for musical purpose)
