    For this third volume devoted to Sergei Prokofiev's complete piano sonatas, David Jalbert brings together three key works: Sonatas Nos. 8 and 9 and Sarcasms, Op. 17. Sonata No. 8, the last in the cycle of "War Sonatas," alternates between introspective lyricism, dramatic outbursts and virtuosity, reflecting the tension between dream and threat that characterized the era in which it was composed. More intimate, Sonata No. 9, dedicated to Sviatoslav Richter, exudes a sophisticated style. As for the Sarcasms, written in the fervor of youth, they display a daring spirit combining sharp contrasts and biting irony. David Jalbert stands out for his expressive playing and technical mastery. Named by CBC as one of the fifteen greatest Canadian pianists of all time, he performs in recitals and with orchestras in Canada and internationally, collaborating with artists such as Yannick Nezet-Seguin, Nicola Benedetti, and Rachel Barton Pine.
