Baden Powell de Aquino, better known simply as Baden Powell (August 6, 1937 - September 26, 2000), was one of the most prominent and celebrated Brazilian guitarists and guitar composers of his time. He combined classical techniques with popular harmony and swing, and performed in many styles, including bossa nova, samba, Brazilian jazz, Latin jazz and Brazilian popular music.
This release compiles his two best albums as a leader: Á Vontade (Elenco ME-11), which includes versions of such hits as "Garôta de Ipanema," "Berimbau" and "Samba triste," and Baden Powell Swings with Jimmy Pratt (Elenco ME-4), on which Powell is joined by American drummer Jimmy Pratt, and which includes a reading of the celebrated "Samba de uma nota só."
